so what would it take?

i have a 86 xt mpfi 2wd and have recently found a wrecked 87 gl-10 turbo in the junk yard and was wondering if i got the manifold, turbo, downpipe, intake boot, and vacum lines. what else would it take to put that on my xt? ecu? mas?

You would also need the engine x-member, its cutout for the up-pipe.

Also the complete engine harness and maybe the rest too, because they changed wiring in 87.

And just so you know.......there have been a few people that have made high compression turbo engines. This engine model is fragile and very temperamental.

And they didnt last very long.

o i am definatly not planning on high compression just a tad bit more mmmfff.

I think what turbone was saying is that without swapping the heads, you will have a high compresion turbo engine. The ea81 turbo engines had lower compression heads than the n/a engines. I would assume ea82 was the same.

What you are talking about doesn't seem like a reasonable way to get a little extra oomph. swap the whole engine and harness or you will most likely create a high maintenance nightmare.

ah ok. i was not aware of the differences in the n/a and turbo motors. any turbo car i have messed with was totaly custom and had no stock components at all and wasnt sure. thanks. -ryan

Actually, its not the heads - its the pistons.

The turbo pistons are dished, which decreases the comp.
