What is this sensor, and do I need it? (ea82t)

Recommended Posts

I'm swapping a used longblock into my 89 ea82t wagon. I found this sensor on my original engine, and the wires had cracked and corroded off of it. It looks like a vacuum switch between the evap canister and the intake manifold.

This car is for RallyX only, and is not licensed for the street. Can I run without this sensor, and just cap the vacuum lines? I have a race on Sunday, and doubt I'd be able to get a replacement before then. (the one from the donor car that supplied the long block had the plastic nipples broken off when I got the car)

Thanks!

Richard

poor depth of field, lighting, focus, composure, exposure, image size

it's not a sensor

it's a solenoid

cap the lines on manifold

probably for EGR

round white sensor is for knock control

rectrangle yellowish coolant temp for computer

everyone's a critic....hehe

it's better than just saying those pictures are crap, make my eyes hurt, require excessive scrolling to see the target, and take forever to download

if they would have been shot at 35mm f/4.9 iso400 1/400 sec, perhaps with fill flash at proper distance and focus, and cropped to 640x480 the picture would be much better!

these are approximate settings that shoulod be a good starting point for YOUR camera

564 kb is excessive!

YES, you can run without it. Cap off the manifold side of the solenoid at the manifold vacuum source.

By the way, I believe that's the Purge Control Solenoid from the EVAP can... Someone will correct me if I'm mistaken???

If you plan on having it smogged in CA, NO, it will not pass without that device... experience tells a fine tale. Off road only, Forget about it!!! Cap it off, keep it till next time.. or whenever you decide to get around to it.

Thanks all, and sorry about the crappy pics. It was late and I just grabbed my wife's camera, took the pics, and uploaded so I could get to bed. My browser auto-resized them for me, so I didn't realize how huge they were. I can see it now (if I watch them download, I see the giant pic for a split sec before it gets resized). Next time, I will resize before uploading. :)

Thanks again!
