Thats exactly what I discovered. Evidently the comb. chamber is pretty efficient, since I was far away from the det. limit on those first 2 runs. the last two....i was right on it. And you see about 10 WHP difference.

Your right this engine does not flow well at all.

 

I think you must know you cannot run as much timing on a turbocharged car at 6000 rpm at boost as you can at say 2000rpm with little to no boost. Why would you not want to run as much timing as possible at any given boost / rpm range? For engine safety, or driveability, to deal with possible bad gas? If you want to get that fun push you back in the seat feeling you need pop! There is always some risk to play.

 

 

How do you tune your fuel and timing maps? This is how I have tuned a 2.3l stroked ej20 with 2.5 heads on a haltech ek6.

 

I was asuming you want to tune for power right?

 

There are ways to deal with the pitfalls of a poor combustion chamber design (detonation). One is water injection (cheap, water is free!) another is fuel ( bigger injectors).

This seems to have been used by a number if high horsepower motorsports like rally (WRC and group A level) and dragracing. If there is intrest and I can get ahold of a scanner I can dig up the ford motorsport diagrams with part numbers, for their H2o injection that was used on their Escort cosworths.

Yes, but for a sertain reason.....because intercooler size has been forced to be so smaal because of regulations...turbos are "over runned" and intake air needs more cooling.

and dragracing.

Also use to have them but not anymore I think....

I think most WRC teams use water injection to deal with the turbo inlet restrictors (34mm), the way they continue to get the same pop and more ft lbs of torque, is they up the compression ratio of the pistons. To continue without detonation they add water injection. I am positive that with the million$ of $$$$ spent they can use THE optimum compressor for the job. But I am not an engineer for a wrc team so I don't KNOW.

 

I do not care to drag race, although many local import drag guys use it. I only care to have a good reliable and powerful motor. If it is good enough for factory teams It is good enough for my silly little club rally car.

 

I cheat, I look at other sucessful efforts and duplicate them. The page I posted up is one of an entire book Ford put out on how to prep their cars for rally.
