2001 Outback. Anyone know what the error codes mean on that brand name CD player ? Ran a cd cleaner in the player but did not solve the problem. I find that I have trouble more in the winter when its cold outside. It will not play a cd till it gets pretty warm in car. I get code er 3. Its always been a fussy cd player on what type of cd's it plays. Also is it very hard to take system out and clean the laser myself ? Went to Mc Intosh web site but it has nothing on what all the error codes stand for. Thanks

My McIntosh stereo is out in my 2002 as well. I installed another (non McIntosh) Subaru stereo in it's place and it works fine, so I know the stereo is toast. It also had an error notation ocassionally, I thought it said SYS ERR though, but I'm not sure.

I saw a company...in Maryland i think...last year that fixes Subaru stereo's, but it wasn't cheap of course. I think they were advertised online or ebay.

Never heard of taking one apart and cleaning it, but i'll be watching to see what you figure out!

What you have is NOT a McIntosh stereo. It is actually built by Clarion (who owns McIntosh) and sold as a stereo upgrade through the manufcaturer, Subaru in this case. You are simply not going to get anything from their web site. ER3 in most cases means some kind of CD transport error. Cleaning won't help it because the problem is usually that the laser servo is out of alignment. YOu can put into a repair shop for a repair, but that's likely to run you $150-200. FYI, YMMV.
