GeneralDisorder
Does it have A/C? My wagon had those relays there - three of em - gold colored right? I pulled em out and tossed em in the garbage.... didn't affect my guages - but then I have a digi-dash. Still - I wouldn't think that would be your problem. GLCraig
2 questions, Did you check the fues links by the battery? Did you check the ground wire for the instrument cluster, which is hidden by and is above the fuse block?
beachbum
yes i checked the ground wire i didnt even find that until i tried another dash to see if that was it(but to no avail)and yes it does have and works ac,and they r the 3 little gold relays i am talking about also.the reason i thought they might have something to do with it is the temp wire to the block goes into that bunch of wires and also the oil sending unit.keep the suggestions coming and ill keep trying thnx oh yes and p.s i did check the fuse by the coil also. GeneralDisorder
Pretty sure from when I was looking that those are either for the A/C, or the Cruise Control - both of which I removed from my wagon. No ill effects to be seen from their removal. I beleive they control such things as the A/C idle up, the A/C fan, and the A/C clutch for the compressor. GLCraig
Okay I just looked at my wirring diagrams. It looks like everything for the cluster goes through the same position on the IG switch and the same fuse as the coil. So if it starts and runs, your problem is likely between the fuse block and cluster.

TomRhere
http://usmb.net/gallery/albuo81/under_the_hood If you're talking these relays in this pic of my '82, they are for the AC system. Niether my '84 or '86 has them, as theu ae not AC equipped. Thinking you are on the right track in going for the wiring, after the key switch. Possibly, just a bad connection at some point, but I can't say where you'd find it.
