GeneralDisorder
Junkyard is you best bet. At this point the value of an '88 is going to be less than the cost of a new/reman pump. As long as you make sure it has the correct quantity of comp. oil when you charge it the pumps almost never fail. GD

idosubaru
get a used compressor. someone on here probably has one for very reasonable, post in the parts wanted section. get new o-rings and schrader valves, it's only like $3 in parts and they're likely old and compromised. do that and charge it up with 2 cans of R134a and appropriate amount of oil and you're golden. Loyale 2.7 Turbo
...charge it up with 2 cans of R134a ... Let me Tell you, Respectfully: Older Subies` Air Conditioner Systems aren`t Designed to use R134a ... They use Freon R12, which is Scarse in some Countries due to environmental regulations. But I Believe that those R12 Systems can Run R134a with a Special retrofitting Kit. Kind Regards.
idosubaru
yeah there are kits all over the place here for cheap to convert from r12 to r134a. it's simple and easy.
