opus
What do you use to add gear oil in the rear diff? I am tired of making a mess. Squirt bottle is too long. Who thought this stuff up anyways??? Grrrr!
hooziewhatsit
Most any parts stores should have a pump you can put in the bottle, like a liquid hand soap dispenser on steroids.
opus
Hmmm...pump goes up and down, hose falls out of hole or off of pump. Nice.
aba4430
Lowes sells clear tubing in various sizes. All you need is a foot of the right size. Jam it on the spout end of the gear oil bottle, hold it so it does not slip off. The other end is in the differential fill hole. It is rigid enough that it will not pop out if you are careful. I use such a set up with success. Then you put the tubing in a plastic bag, label it for use again later. There will always be some mess to wipe off after you are done..... ivantruckman
walmart sells a long transmission oil funnel for $1.99 , come on its not that bad, although the stupid air conditioning hose is in the way.

GeneralDisorder
I use clear teflon tubing. 3/8" or 5/16" would work fine. Attach one end to the bottle and the other through the fill plug hole. GD
opus
Wow, it must be long. I have a gas tank right behind my rear diff. I cant do anything more than level for a couple feet I think. How do you keep a tube on the oily-tapered end of the bottle? You probably push the tube down to the shoulder, past the taper?
GeneralDisorder
Yeah - I just shove it on. Two people make it easier I suppose but I have done it myself as well. I think I used like 36" or around that size - we stock it at work so I just cut off a chunk long enough to do the job. GD
TomRhere
I find it helps if you sit the bottle of lube in a bucket of "hot" water for a few minutes. Helps it flow easier.
monstaru
i am a fan of th epump ,as i have several things to lube usually and by gear oil by the gallon.always have it around that way too....cheers, brian
Gloyale
Hmmm...pump goes up and down, hose falls out of hole or off of pump. Nice. The pumps have a nozzle with nothched tabs that grab into the hole. It is the proper tool for the job. the easiest way. If it is too complicted for you then you are SOL
subiemech85
remove the rear dif. works great, no mess, easy to drain ALL old oil out best done when installing LSD 21oz.
bheinen74
was just thinking. I hate despise lube shops, have never and will never use one, but my thought is, they are supposed to change oil and top off all fluids. Wonder if they ever check the rear diff on subies? that would be considered all fluids bet not. one could probably empty the diff oil in a beater soob, take in for oil change, and then theoretically, after no diff oil got added and burned up the transmission go back on them and make them buy you a new one.....since they are contracted to check and fill as needed all fluids... evil
hooziewhatsit
years ago when I last had a shop change my oil, then also checked the rear diff fluid. They had a card with a spot for each location, and a dab of oil from each so I could see the color. Pretty slick really. If you do have a shop change it, make sure to tell them to loosen the filler FIRST, then drain it. Heard a horror story or two about that.
