The odometer seems to be correct but the speedometer doesent read:-\. Any idea about what the problem is and a way to fix it? Any help would be appreciated:grin:. Thanks, Aaron. nipper Posted April 20, 2009 Share Posted April 20, 2009 Er um, not sure what you are describing actually. A spedo works really simply. It is basically a spinning magnet inside a metal bell. The bell has a small spring on it to get the needle go back to zero (the resting pin). Aaron Mc Posted April 20, 2009 Author Share Posted April 20, 2009 The odometer is reading correct so I don't think it is the cable, but when I pull out of my driveway the speedometer needle spins around 2 or 3 times and then rests strait down. edrach Posted April 20, 2009 Share Posted April 20, 2009 There's a seal in the transmission where the speedo cable is attached which prevents oil/grease from travelling up the speedo cable. If the grease gets into the speedometer, it causes the speed reading to read high (in your case really, really high). Only fix is to replace the cable and speedometer since you'll never get the grease out of the speedo. Also you need to replace the seal or the problem will occur again. And I believe it is the cable on my 89 EA82 In your case it is a different problem, which can be the drive in the spedo head is worn, or at the tranny, or a broken cable in such a way it doesnt grab all the time.. In the original posters case its his cable hanging up inside the housing. Its not all about you you know (hehehehehehe). The cable in his case is jumping instead of spinning. If i walk along (being one spedo needle)and you decide to cover the same distance by jumping every three feet (being the other spedo needle) , the same distance is registered at the end of the trip, but the needles dont move the same. nipper Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
