Markus56
will axles from 90's loyales fit on an 85 GL? Thanks! John
idosubaru
don't think so. the loyale will be EA82 - the 85 is an EA81 right? they don't interchange.
NorthWet
85 was the first year of the "EA82"-type chassis (technically, not correct as the EA82 is an engine designation rather than a chassis identifier, but good enough for this conversation) in the sedan, coupe, and wagons. The Brat and 2-door "Hatch" continued as EA81s... totally confusing auto parts purchases until the 90 (?) model year. Anyway, assuming that the 85 is the wider chassis with the OHC EA82 engine, and neither are turbos, the axles should interchange. Also helps the confidence level if both have the same tranny. Spiffy
if they're both ea82, both the same as far as 2wd/4wd, and both non-turbo or turbo, then yes... here's a reference I picked up off USMB a while back to help you cross reference the spline count... --Spiffy

bratman18
both of em are off 5 speed 4x4 single range trannys. i have a duel range but it should work then Yup as long as they are both EA82
idosubaru
EA82 = EA82 doesn't matter whether it's auto/manual or 4WD/FWD the only thing that matters is turbo/non-turbo. that would have to be the same. if you're swapping used axles, i've found that these 80's axles hardly last a year, often breaking boots in a matter of weeks/months. the rubber boots are just old and dry rotted. hopefully you have better luck than i have.
