P K
Hello All, I have a 92 Loyale 4WD, 3AT. There is a button that I have to press to get the shifter out of park most every time. See photo. What is its true purpose? (anti-theft for the keyFOB impaired?) thanx in advance, r/ PK.
Hondasucks
That's the shift interlock. You are supposed to have to press the brake pedal in order to shift from Park, however if that mechanism malfunctions, you will have to press the button to over-ride the interlock. You should here a click sound coming from the shifter lever when pressing the brake pedal with the ignition switch on, if not, either the interlock solenoid is bad, the switch on the brake pedal is bad, or the wiring between the two is boogered up. subiemech85
the secret theft device makes it possible to shift into neutral without key and without stepping on brake and without battery very useful !
TheLoyale
Heres the thing, I have a 3AT too, but when I got the car this button was missing. But it always moves out and into Park fine. So I think this button is usless. dunno why it was takin out though? btw, nothing clicks on mine. So in its place I have a switch for my front offroad lights! GeneralDisorder
either the interlock solenoid is bad... BTW - these often are "stuck" due to many soda's being spilled into the center console. A good cleaning often fixes the interlock solenoind. Removing it works too and means you never need to use the button or step on the brake - which is the way I prefer it anyway.
