So... who wants stiffer rear springs for their EA82's?

Mwhahaha

 

so today i was thinking of a way to get some stiffer springs in the back of my 86 lifted wagon so the back wont slouch when i give it gas or when i load it down.

 

and yatizie!! i found a nice combo using the orignal EA82 strut body with a new lower perch, top hat, and spring. mind you this is all subaru OEM parts.

 

i built a pair today after hours of tinkering and will hopefully install them into my car tonight and then test them tomorrow to and from work as well as some off-road area's.

 

they come out to the same overall size as the stock 4WD rear struts so there is no lift but only a higher spring weight to compensate for loads and normal driving to fight against the rear sagging under load.

ya but you are stuck with the weak 160 or 200 lbs springs that are still in there.

i will do a side by side comparison to the stock shock/spring combo tomorrow when i install them so you can see the size difference between my hybrid's and the stockers.

ya its a newer model subaru coil spring, and everything can be easily found and these can built in a few minutes really now that i know what i need to make this work.

 

so once i get them installed ill post pictures of ride height before and after as well as a write up on how the car handle's after compared to the wishy washy way it is now.

looks like some BE legacy parts. although those would be softer......

 

stiffer springs is easy. Ea82s use 2.5" ID springs. aftermarket ones are very common. I run Eibachs available from Ground-control in any dimension you can imagine (a 12" long 250 lb/in spring works wonderfully!).

$59 each. for genuine Eibach springs. in any spring rate and length you want. lifted, lowered, stiffer, softer, etc.

I know of no factory subaru with a stiffer spring rate than an EA82 wagon. since i made that chart, i've found better info on the late legacies, but IIRC none were over 190 lb/in.

 

 

 

 

not saying yours is a bad idea. looks pretty sweet. but it may not be the best option. and may not actually be an upgrade....

well if i get them to work i kinda want to keep that to my self for a little while.

 

if i can't then ill let everyone know the year span, model, and such.

 

50 bucks and I won't tell everyone first. :lol:

 

I think these will be much stiffer than the stock ea82 ones.

your thread title asks who wants them. are you trying to sell them?

 

you're only saving $20 over genuine high-quality name brand performance springs. and probably spending much more than a pair of accord springs would cost. both of which require no modification.

FYI. only option I can find that would be stiffer is a BP LGT, which uses a 171-330 progressive rear spring. even an '09 STi only has 190 in the rear. unless you're just taking a softer spring and cranking a ton of preload on it.....

yes i will be selling them as a complete ready to go assembly.

 

yes saving $20 but that is for the spring only not a complete assembled shock and spring combo ready to go that are dime a dozen, easy to find, and easy to build. also you mention the accord springs... how many 80-84 honda accords are in wrecking yards anymore. even with my work that is subaru only the early 80's cars are few and far between. so you can imagine how long a car like that will last at any other wrecking yard, im sure it will be brought in, drained of fluids, pull the wheels and tires and sent to the crusher.

 

and you are still way off on the springs.(what they came off of)

 

anyways i installed them yesterday and took it for a drive. MUCH stiffer but still has good travel for articulation. i took it to a light trail by my place and the rear was way more planted compared to the stock springs. also it does not sag as much in the back now.

 

they do talk a little while wheeling but nothing that isn't normal.

and na the springs don't touch anything in the fender well.

 

ok so people stop belly aching this is what they are made up of.

 

EA82 shock body, 01 outback lower spring perch, 01 outback springs, 01 outback top strut cup, and modded loyale top mount.
