milkman111083
I am driving a 4speed 85 brat and at my last fillup i checked the mpg and it came out to 23. That seemed pretty low considering it runs really really smooth (for a carburated engine anyway). What kind of numbers are you guys getting? any recomendations? Spiffy
that's not horrible if it's city miles... highway miles that could be a little low... I know I've seen a few mileage threads around here... my '82 was getting about 20 around the city... but I just put a weber on it and haven't gone through a tank of gas yet... TeamCF
Last time I used a combo of GPS/odo readings to calculate it with a few fill ups I was getting close to 35 doing the trip from Sandy to TSF several times. This is mostly highway with a crossing through Portland thrown in. 1983 GL, 4 speed dual range. Hitachi carb with lots of crap stripped off of it and all new vacume lines. Twitch de la Brat
Same year brat and getting eerily the same gas mileage. Mine's almost completely stock, minus the 100a alt upgrade I highly recommend putting the midgrade (89 Octane) in your brat. Mine runs a heck of a lot better on it and my fuel mileage got a bump too Twitch
milkman111083
twitch... ha, mine has a new alternator on it too. ill try mid grade gas and see what happens. have you ever heard of any mpg estimates of the same setup with fuel injection? milkman111083
is that stock fuel injection or did you change it over?
aba4430
87 Brat with 4 speed DR. I get 23 - 25 routinely, no matter how I drive. A/C is on and windows up usually.
Psyko
I've got an '85 4 speed D/R Brat and the best I ever saw was 31 highway and 27 city. Like Team CF, that was with a stripped down Hitachi. My latest number is a whopping 17 city (didn't do any highway driving and haven't driven it in a while) thanks to a tall topper, winter gas, screwed up Weber, RWD and oversized 14" rear tires. Basically, I've done pretty much easy thing I can think of to make my Brat heavier and less efficient. :-p
carfreak85
In my EA81T wagon I tend to average 21-23 MPG, with a high and low of 17 and 25. Best I ever got was in my hitachi powered hatch before I lifted it, 35 MPG average IIRC.
ihscout54
After the SPFI swap on my BRAT Im getting about 23-24, with the hitachi I was getting right around the same 21-24. All city driving.
GeneralDisorder
There are so many variables that affect mileage that it's almost worthless to talk about it. Having been here many years and having owned more EA series vehicles than I care to remember, I can tell you that ultimately, if you setup everything correctly, you can get about 27 to 28 on a typical tank of gas for a 4WD EA81 . A bit more in the summer and a bit less in the winter. 2WD's are up around 31 to 32. You will, of course, have to shift the whole range down if you have high ethanol content in your local fuel. You'll lose about 2 MPG for every 10% of the stuff. GD
