gen 2 mpg?

Recommended Posts

that's not horrible if it's city miles... highway miles that could be a little low...

I know I've seen a few mileage threads around here...

my '82 was getting about 20 around the city... but I just put a weber on it and haven't gone through a tank of gas yet...

Last time I used a combo of GPS/odo readings to calculate it with a few fill ups I was getting close to 35 doing the trip from Sandy to TSF several times.

This is mostly highway with a crossing through Portland thrown in.

1983 GL, 4 speed dual range. Hitachi carb with lots of crap stripped off of it and all new vacume lines.

I've got an '85 4 speed D/R Brat and the best I ever saw was 31 highway and 27 city. Like Team CF, that was with a stripped down Hitachi.

My latest number is a whopping 17 city (didn't do any highway driving and haven't driven it in a while) thanks to a tall topper, winter gas, screwed up Weber, RWD and oversized 14" rear tires. Basically, I've done pretty much easy thing I can think of to make my Brat heavier and less efficient. :-p

There are so many variables that affect mileage that it's almost worthless to talk about it. Having been here many years and having owned more EA series vehicles than I care to remember, I can tell you that ultimately, if you setup everything correctly, you can get about 27 to 28 on a typical tank of gas for a 4WD EA81 . A bit more in the summer and a bit less in the winter. 2WD's are up around 31 to 32.

You will, of course, have to shift the whole range down if you have high ethanol content in your local fuel. You'll lose about 2 MPG for every 10% of the stuff.
