Ever Victorious
5-speed pushbutton S/R (EA82) trans would probably be about the same amount of work to refit as the 5-speed D/R EA82 on an EA81, right?
Spiffy
I would think so... on the s/r you have the vacuum system to keep the 4wd engaged... on the d/r you have the linkage... either way that's the only real difference... and if you're going to do it I'd go for the solid feel of a lever to shift into 4wd rather than trust the vacuum... zyewdall
Plus you get dual range.... I haven't done it yet on mine... still sitting in a pile of parts in the workshop, with the motionless car out in the yard... doing an SPFI swap on the EA81 at the same time... GeneralDisorder
More work actually. The pushbutton requires more wireing and vacuum hose/solenoid hookup than the d/r. The linkage is the same either way except for the d/r you make a two cuts to the 4WD shift rod (the EA81 shift rod) - removing 1" of it and then welding it back together. It then pins to the transmission the same way it did to the 4 speed. GD
