The questions get dumber-

In my whole swap prep, I've been going over the new EJ22 and getting familiar with it, and I noticed a potential issue- There is no hole to replicate the timing mark hole on the EA82 it's replacing. This normally wouldn't be an issue, but I have a 4EAT in the destination car, and need to get to the torque converter nuts.

Do I have to access these from below (major PITA) or ??

You go thru the starter hole.

Just dont drop your socket down into the bellhousing (ask me how I know!)

wrong side for torque converter bolts ;) (unless EA82 4EAT torque converters are entirely different than 3AT or EJ 4EATs.....). starter hole is great for pressure plate bolts though!

there is an access hole on the bellhousing of the EJ. should have a rubber cap over it.

easily seen in this [blurry] pic of my EJ22 shortblock:

  • 1 month later...

This seemed like the right thread for this, since my search abilities are lame.

On the Legacy AWD 5MT I just picked up, there are two plugs. One I am assuming is for the reverse lights, but what is the other one? Does this have an electrical locking diff?

Geez, I knew that. I've done enough of them.

Sucks getting old

Told you it was a dumb question- I was looking in the center/left area like the EA series, the intake was blocking my view of that side

Oh, and Rob- The middle ones are rump roast-savers.

Who makes them and is there a part #?

It might be the neutral safety lockout.

But I could be wrong about that too :-\

With 4EAT equipped cars, I always remove the intake, and install it on the engine after the engine is in the car, mated to trans and Torque Converter. It is SOOOOOOO much easier that way. Well worth a couple $5 intake gaskets.
