EA82 Oil Pump Replacement

Recommended Posts

Pulled out my oil pump on my 94 Loyale yesterday, and in the process the oil seal fell out on to the ground. I didn't get a chance to see which way it fit in. I'm replacing it due to the lifter tick intermittent nightmare. Can anyone give me the right configuration for the oil seal?

i just replaced the seals on mine and the mickey mouse gasket had a hard time staying on.

i had to use some permatex gasket maker to get it to stay on while i reinstalled the pump so have some on hand just incase that happens.

the black stuff is the most oil resistant and use an EXTREMELY small ammount. pretty much just enough to get it to stay in place

My preference for such occasions that I need a goo to make things stick in place is to use engine assembly lube. There are various types but they all have the feature of being fully miscible in the engine oil. I also use Dow Corning valve sealant. The stuff is amazing for sealing o-rings and rubber gaskets such as troublesome oil filter gaskets (non Subaru of course). It also is miscible in oil - thicker and stickeir but likely harder to find than the assembly lube.

RTV is a poor choice - when hard it can clog small oil passages and reak havoc with lifters, etc. Personally I keep it a LONG way from oil systems in general. I really don't like RTV for many jobs. EA series oil pan and EA pushrod valve cover gaskets - that's about it.
