eryque
'98 Impreza wagon... Last year I replaced the struts with those spec'd for a Forester in hopes of raising my Impreza. It worked great in front, to the tune of about 4 or 5 inches from where it was. The back end only came up a couple of inches. I put Forester springs in the back after that, and there wasn't much change. Do any of you have some ideas why this might be? The struts were a set of KYB struts I bought from an ebay seller. The appeared to be in a bundle directly from factory, so I don't think it's a mismatched set.
avk
Possibly a different weight distribution, or perhaps different position of strut mounting points, heightwise, front vs. rear? Floor pans should be the same though.
greenleg88
hmm. i was reading that the struts on the wagons give a saggier butt... since this is a wagon, maybe the struts were meant for a sedan? and not the wagon like you thought? i think i read most of this stuff on nasioc. it was about swapping struts onto a 98 Legacy. ill take a look and see if i could find those and post the links.. they might be on here too... i dont remember. eryque
Well, the struts were for Foresters, which are all wagons, so I'm not sure if that would be the case. I'd expect struts and springs for wagons to be a little taller and a little stiffer than those for a sedan.
greenleg88
yeah i know what you mean. i saw the ebay seller with the kyb gr-2s for a 97 legacy sedan too so is it possible they messed up the order? hopefully its a better reason than that.... oh wow. i just mis read everything i feel... if you wanted to raise your IMPREZA. you shoulda gotten sedan struts. *according to what i read* the wagons sag more.. thats why wherever i read this from, the poster said to make sure to use sedan for sedan and wagon for wagon otherwise it would sag in the back. if you were looking to raise the impreza. it could just be that the Forrester was designed to sit with a higher front because the body makes up for it...
