sigh.. i really hate her... wheel bearing issue again

How do you mean it "went" ?

 

Will a bad wheel bearing cause the wheel to rub against the inside fender? We're having that issue, and It looks like the tires are too big (yet they look like the right size and are the same as my friend's subaru)

Bad wheel bearings usually make noise. Humming, thrumming, sounds like noisy tires.

 

If you jack up that wheel, you may see looseness in the bearing if you grab the top and bottom of the tire and push at the top, pull at the bottom, and reverse.

 

You may also hear/feel notchiness or vibration when rotating the wheel. jacking up both front wheels and putting it in neutral makes turning the wheel easier.

Compare the left and right wheels, and try turning the wheel as fast as possible with your hand on the strut spring. This was the only way I could tell my bad one from the good one.

I suggest considering the Hub Tamer tool kit if you plan to replace the bearing yourself. I have a step by step procedure that I wrote up for my 2001 Forester driver's rear bearing if you want it, I can email it to you.

getting the bearing changed is not a problem... i am amazed that it lasted this long 204K miles original subaru bearings...

 

now not always you have play with the wheel on, mine didnt have any play until i loosened up the axle nut.. thats when everything almost fell apart separating a bit from eachother, yikes :eek::eek:

 

 

everything is fine now took me about 30 mnst to get the hub off and take it to the shop to get the new bearing pressed then another 30 mnts to get it back on the car...

I hope they checked the hub- if the wheel loosened up while loosening the axle nut, I'd suspect the hub was damaged. The inner races are a very tight fit on the hub, and the bearing could not loosen up unless the races slid on the hub.

Sorry to hear of the bearing problem. My wife's '99 Forester needed new bearings on both rear wheels at 120K miles. We also got new tires at the time. Unfortunately one of the tires was bad and 20K miles later we were getting new bearings on the pass side. And new tires on the back.

Did a mechanic infer a bad tire damaged the wheel bearings? That sounds a little sketchy.
