Transmission interchange question

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have a 2001 Legacy Outback Wagon which has a bad 5-speed transmission.

I have the following list of possibly compatible transmissions and their part numbers and originating cars.. I'm concerned about whether the wiring harnesses will interchange. If anyone can help me narrow this list down it would help me immensely :)

I also have pictures of the wiring harness on the bad transmission which is after the list.

Thanks!

I think after 95 the Legacy had the electronic speed sensor vs. the cable. However you can change the speed sensors over, so that's not a problem. The electrical really shouldn't be a problem. Those plugs could be changed if need be.

The main thing you need to make sure is that the final drive ratio matches.

Thanks Josh. Every transmission in that list I typed is a 4.11 ratio.. I could always match the diff if I put in a different ratio but I'd prefer to keep it original.

Changing the electrical components wouldn't be hard either.... cheers!
