JimmyJam
My speedo has been acting up. From 0-20mph in traffic at low speeds, my speedo has been bouncing up and down. What would cause this?? After about 10mph (actual speed) it levels out and is fine. I am baffled.

nipper
thats a hard one, as you can either have a cable or en electronic spedo. 1995 is when they switched. Look under the hood, at the firewall around the master cylinder. You will see one cable, for the gas pedal. Do you see a second cable that loops down to the transmission? Do you have any CEL lights? nipper
idosubaru
a friends 97 Impreza Auto EJ22 AWD is doing the same, i'd be interested to see what this is. hopefully it's something simple because the driven gears in the trans aren't going to be replaced by most folks (intensive, costly, or both). rverdoold
Your speedo is driven by a cable comming from the transmission. You can check up my log about regreasing the cable inside. maybe the notch is worn.
john in KY
My 95 dd this a few years back and it does not have a cable-driven speedometer. Think the problem was a failing VSI but I just replaced the instrument cluster. Found a low mileage one from a 98 and haven't had the problem since. unibrook
My bet is its your instrument head. My old Saab used to do this for a year. Then went dead for a year. Then fixed itself. I would just leave it as is. Bigger fish to fry.
