Ultimate Subaru Message Board

Recommended Posts

Hi, Message board looks good!

I'm hoping someone can steer me to a source for replacement supports for the rear lift door on a 2003 Forester. Online searches for hatch supports, hatch struts etc. turn up replacements by Stabilus or others that fit various Subaru models, but not the Forester.

Info greatl appreciated, Thanks, SN

I realize you're trying to be cute but I have no idea of where Morris is. Please update your profile with a meaningful location.

That said I've had good luck with getting replacements for other off beat cars from Advance Auto. But since I don't know where you are at I don't know if you may have Advance's near you.

Thanks, Advance shows "universal" supports, so I will try them.

Hard to see why a 2003 Forester would be "offbeat," maybe there hasn't been demand yet.

BTW - Your "realizing" is way off the mark. I simply registered, and wrongly assumed that the state that I entered would be visible. Why not just suggest that a guy ought to put more info in his profile... instead of getting "cute" on me?

It just helps sometimes if we know where folks are at. Lots of little towns with the same name exist in several states. Then there are the great names like "tri-state area", "in the woods", "up the creek", whatever. Not meaningful at all.

Folks here are very helpful. It helps to know where folks are at to offer assistance personally, etc.

I've had pretty good luck with the struts from Advance. Can't recall the name but they come in a Grey Sleeve. I'm talking about on other makes of cars. I've never needed them (that I didn't already have) on a Suby.

Thanks, found some at subarupartsforyou.com at $49 ea. was hoping for under $30 from aftermarket - I'll check to see how much they are from the dealer.
The trouble with aftermarket ones is that sometimes they don't provide the range of motion that the OEM ones do. I'm not saying to just straight up buy OEM ones, but it is something worth considering.

Have you tried rockauto.com?

No dice, in spite of their declaration "All the parts your car will ever need"

Thanks
