Successful test drive

Recommended Posts

I have my car back. There are a few minor things to work on, but I drove into town and got fuel and even washed it.

So, I added these items from the donor mobile ; tilt, intermittent, an overhead map light, power mirrors and a rear cargo light (that I haven't installed yet)

I swapped my s/r 5 for a d/r 5 (need center console)

I swapped my tired 1.8 spfi for a less tired (and re-gasketed) 1.8 spfi, took the ecu too

converted to rear disc and 6 bolt Toyota hubs

changed to 15" (205/65-15) tires and (ugly) rims

I'm sure I'm forgetting something I added or moved....

pulled the locked 3.9 from the donor, but haven't installed it, yet

but it all seems to work - right off the bat the defacto gear ratio change is not unpleasant, I like the ride on the bigger tires and there is only a little rubbing at full lock (not where I would have expected it, but on the very corner of the air dam in the fender well)

phew - time to rest and drive it for a while before I get any more 'great ideas'

Is this the '90 Loyale in your profile? If I've seen pics before, I can't think of it now...and your avatar is tiny. That sounds like a lot of work you did there, in a short time. I just need a shop, proper tools, money, time, help, and motivation!

Yeah it's the 1990 Loyale RS. I'll take some pics tomorrow, I painted the ugly rims and want to ask opinions of the two ideas I tried. Solid black glossy rims or black with a red bead... I had tried red rims, to match the car, but decided it was too 'fire engine'. Solid black looks ok but kind of boring, not sure if the Krylon deluxe treament, the red bead looks ok or is too 'Halloweeny'

I didn't have much money to work with, a piece here a piece there - rock auto saved my butt - like the valve cover grommets for $.09 ea, of the $1.43 for the transmission output shaft seals...

no shop, personal car port and gravel - but I do have an 80 gallon air compressor and some air tools (mainly the 1/2" impact drive saved my butt on disassembly).

the donor car was 'der tod wagon' post (eines hubsches auto)

bacarruda found the wagon on craigslist and I jumped on it - it's all his fault

I ALREADY added power mirrors, tilt, and the overhead map light

yes, the harnesses are already in the car, in this case, the wiring was even run to the mirror through the door (although one had fallen down inside the door a bit) the switch panel pops into the dash, and the connector for it is in there somewhere

the only one I had to hunt down was the connector that ran from the switch to the left mirror, but again, it was behind the dash and just a matter of plugging it in

it's just a matter of finding the unused other half of the connector and matching the wire colors

if you think about it, it makes manufacturing sense to make one wire bundle for everything and use what you need depending on the options to be installed

sweet i didnt kniow this company did that, power mirrors are the one option i want that i dont have, theres tons of em with power mirros in the j-yard too.

you don't even have to take the door panel off, there seems to be more than one casting to attach to the door, (the spacing of the three screws behind the trim piece varies a bit) you'll see, it's easy and self explanatory - I hope you do that, it's an easy project that makes for some enjoyment
