I was not sure where to put this thread so I hope I chose the right category.

I have a 1991 Subaru legacy that needs a few things and I wanted some opinions on what I should do. Right now it needs struts, inner tie rods, a new outer cv boot on the front right, and an alignment. I found that these will cost about $570 if I do some of the work myself. I have a few questions now that you know my situation.

How much do you think my car is worth now and also after I fixed it? It is in decent cosmetic condition.

My wheels are stuck on and I would like to know if you have any suggestions on getting them off. Right now I have only tried hammering from the back of the wheel but I have heard that loosening the lug nuts just a bit and then turning hard at very low speeds can help. Do you have any other suggestions?

Welcome matt. Fixed up or not, your car is worth whatever someone will pay for it! You can find them with asking prices ranging anywhere from $500 to $1500--but that's no indication of what people are actually paying.

I wouldn't recommend the "loose nuts and turning" method to break the wheels free. Too many chances to bung something up. Try soaking the contact areas with PB Blaster or Liquid Wrench then pounding on them with a piece of 2 X 4 as a buffer.

Good luck.

To get the wheels off. Put the car on jack stands (don't leave it on the jack, because it could fall over). Take the lug nuts off and kick the tire a few times. (you might have to kick kinda hard) That's a lot more common than you might think, and it just takes some elbow grease to pop them loose is all.

How much is the car worth? That depends on how much it's worth to you. If you like the car and want to keep it, then its probably worth fixing.

If you fix your car, you know what you have - warts and all.

If you go out and buy something else you may not know the issues you are buying and it may cost you even more.

570 is cheep to keep a car on the road. Some new car payments can exceed that amount.

Repairs like yours you should always do, but if it starts having major engine problems or tranny, then it may not be cost-effective. Don't ever expect to get your money out of it, just drive till it dies.
