weber swap in the middle of the night

Recommended Posts

So i have mostly finished a weber swap on my '85 wagon and i am realising i am missing some things i need to finish it.

fuel return T; I had one at one point, but now i cant find it, i suspect it was thrown away by accident, what have people used for this?

fuel inlet screw thingy; the thing to hook the fuel line into the carb. whats it called?

also there is a hole in the base plate of the air filter mount. what do i do with that?

its now 2 AM, so i'm not really expecting answers anytime soon, but i have to go to work this afternoon, so i need to finish this soon...

Guess i will have to wait until 8 AM when NAPA opens

man life sucks for those who work the graveyard shift.

hey i hear ya about the night thing when i had a Weber i just plugged the hole in the bottom of the plate for the breather some people hook it to the cam case vents. the fuel return i just plugged off. the fuel inlet you meen the nipple thing that you slide the fuel line onto? mine had it but i think you can use the one from the stock carb if it unscrews if not go get a 1/4 inch pipe nipple i think thats what it is. Then your good to go.

Yeah it might be 2am, but your still getting your answers!

You should be able to unscrew the brass nipple (thats what they call it) from your old hitachi carburator, and screw it into the fuel inlet on the Weber. This is what I did on mine, i hope the EA82's hitachi is the same as the EA81's.

As far as the hole in the air filter base, its for the PCV system. You can plug it to get you by. But later you will want to T both of your valve cover vents to it.

Should have no problem making it to work on time tomorrow!

You need to put a couple washers behind the plate that the cable hooks into.

Just undo the nut on the throttleshaft, slide plate off, install washers, install plate.

The little barrel thing on the end of the cable can catch on the choke stuff is the cause of the binding.

As for the fuel inlet. My Weber had one side plugged already.

When i added washers, there wasnt enought stub to put the bolt on.

could you use a hammer to bend the plate so it didnt touch?

that took longer than i thought.

it works now, but the pedal doesn't go down as far as it used to.

and i'm using the hitachi return spring hooked to a hole i drilled in top of the air filter top piece

Run the valve vent lines to opposite sides of a T fitting. The center part of the T will run up to the air filter box. It is in this stretch of hose from the T to the air box that you should install another T fitting for the PCV valve hose. This time, however, the nipple that runs to the PCV valve should be a reduced size to have the system operate properly.

See Post #4 in the below thread:

There are a variety of ways members have hooked this up. I am not educated enough in automotive mechanics to tell you one way is better than the next.

What I can say is that I have mine hooked up the way I described above, and it runs perfectly. Actually, it runs absolutely amazingly perfect!!! Unbelievably awesome! :)

Can you tell I love my weber?

Maybe if you have a digi cam, take some pics for us of which hose(s)? IIRC there is only one vacuum line that goes to the front of the weber, all other vacuum lines are not needed that were attached to the hi-tossy carb. Which weber choke do you have? Electric?

Actually - here's a better post I made with pictures.

You need the 1/4" diameter line on the driver's side to act as a vacuum breaker for the PCV.
