hardtail_pride
OK hopefully those pics uploaded alright. Just thought i would post up for fun so others can see my work in progress! Recently bought this 90 loyale for 300 bucks. Obviously super rusty and that's just how they are around Utah. But the motor runs nicely with No TOD and working AC so to me it was worth it. I have had loyales before but never really got into working on them myself but this one is my cheap reliable project. So the list of things that had to be replaced. Today i replaced the front brakes ($20 each rotor and all pads) A CV axle, and the passenger mirror. I haven't ever done a CV axle before but after cruising the fix it manual on here and various write ups i got the confidence to go do it myself. Not to mention i wont pay someone half the price of the car to just put in a new axle. So i found a good condition axle in the local Pick n pull and got it for about 30 bucks. It was super hot and gave me a huge sense of accomplishment pulling it myself in about half an hour to an hour. It took a lot of pounding and persuading but it got it out! I took the route of un-doing the sway bar and control arm. And that worked out quite nicely. Oh i did get stung by a wasp when i put my tool box on top of another Subaru and it hurt like crap! It took me about an hour once i got to my shop to put the rotor on and axel back in my Subaru so a bit quicker around the second time. Luckily the rotors came right off the axle that helped. Sorry about rambling. It just feels so good to do something on my own and not pay tons for someone else to have my life experiences right!? Anyways here's some pics, i will be replacing the hood, fenders and rear hatch due to severe rust. I did super quick rust control with a grinder, then quick primer job. I will do more later when i get the other body parts and then a fresh paint job! There is a lot of rust to holes in the rear lower overhang of the wagon, has anyone cut those whole sections out? Anyone have pics of the end result? I dont mind cutting out the fenders a bit because i have plans for wheeling it a bit in the hills. So better departure angles are all good in my book. Plans are a 2 inch lift and a 5spd DR swap. oh hey another question, There is a coupe at the JY with a DR and i believe its a 89. Will it work with my gear ratios? 3.9 i believe? Straight up bolt in swap i hope. Anyways thanks for reading about my car and leave any feed back or suggestions or answers! Brian
GeneralDisorder
If the coupe is not a turbo and it has a 3.9 rear diff it should work fine. It's the turbo models with the 3.7 rear diff and the 1.2:1 low range that are to be avoided (for your type of project - there are people that kill for them for other uses). gwilson87
Sweet ride! I am assuming you were at state street if you got stung by wasps. It seems like the wasps all built their homes in the subarus You should have gotten ahold of me for that axle, I'm freaking pro at those stupid things now. I usually don't have to break stuff anymore

gwilson87
I didn't need the motor, just the flywheel. And maybe the driveshaft.... didn't have time to go take measurements today. And yes, Mcgyver tricks do work.
