The Dude Abides
Ok, so, im excited im pumped. Im going to work on my car this weekend. Im at my garage checkin things over, going to top off the coolant. Check the cooland and its full, humm a day ago it needed some added. So i burp it a bit and see some bubbles comming out. I look at my fan, i dont ever remember it actually ever turning on. I drive to work and let the old girl get nice and hot. Pop the hood and have a look. Fan doesnt turn on, humm my ac clutch fan must be cooling my engine. So i get down on all 4s to see about removing this to inspect it. Oh my my my. Many many missing fins, i can actually see through it. Lots of green blotches and spots. My thinking is this is done for. SO heres my idea. Remove the radiator, both fans. Flush heater core and replace thermastat. Then remove power steering pump and remove iac and clean. Re attach iac and power steering pump. Then put good junkyard radiator (if i can find one) in the car and fine 1 huge electric fan out of another car and wire it to run all the time. Im thinking something from a ford taurus. Nice and thin. Also noticed while it was running today there is a whineing. Not like anything ive heard before. I ear checked the passanger side head and it seems to be coming from the front. Timeing belt idler. Its going to be a long winter. Its to bad i dont have more money to buy the timeing belt kit, it would be a perfect time to change out the timeing belt idler and pullys, waterpump and oil pump with the radiator and everything else out of the way. I got all my parts in, i can tell the cap and rotor will be easy. Exhaust manifold gaskets will be easy if i can get the exhaust bolts off. Valve cover gaskets will be a pain in the butt because of the ac and they are covered head to toe with a thick layer of grease. On top of all this put on my rear brakes, blast and clean up my newly aquired pugs. AND finish the body work on my car before winter. Man i need some help. GeneralDisorder
Check ebay for a radiator - there used to be listings where you could snag a brand new one for like $58 shipped. I got one a few years back for an '87 3-door. Also you should note that in 91 or 92 they changed the lower radiator hose and the angle of the connection at the radiator changed. So if you get a new radiator it *might* have the pre-91 lower hose, but then again it might not. Just be aware of the change and if you get a radiator with the newer style connection just go order a hose for a 93 Loyale. And when you are looking for radiators in parts catalogs also look for the late model Loyale pricing. Because of the hose change it might be a different part number and there's always the chance that it's cheaper.
