msmithmmx
The manual says 44 teeth on Pass and 40.5 on the Driver. My Driver is spot on but the Pass side is 48. Its a 2000 2.5. Is the Manual wrong? Edited July 25, 2009 by msmithmmx More Info
Olnick
The 44/40.5 count is for the EJ22. Seems like this was talked about recently--try a search. Good luck.
msmithmmx
I dug it out. Is it OK if the tensioner has a little play on it? http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=91346&highlight=timing+belt+tooth
idosubaru
You're dealing with an interference engine, I would install a perfect tensioner and a perfect tensioner only. Particularly considering the next belt change is 100,000 miles. I had a sloppy tensioner on an interference EJ22 and off the car it was tight as new. On the car it had slop and the belt was slapping around, glad it didn't let the belt slip. The price of a new one is really annoying, I do understand that, but for such a new car it's really not worth the risk.
