Not sure if they are just a pain in the butt to put in because they are aftermarket or because they are just a tight fit but i ended up dropping the crossmember, bolting it on to the tranny without the crossmember and then bolting the cross back in place. I had to grind a bit on the bolt holes to get them to line up on at least one side as the bolt pattern is too narrow IIRC.
