tKYB is the oem equipment manufacturer for Subaru.

. unless you have spec B and then its bilstein. not sure on Sti.

my experience with the Kyb though, is the silver paint is very thin, and cheap, and mine got rusty looking after a couple winter months.

subaru must have a better grade of paint spec'd on the oem version, they are black and more durable paint. I would suggest to paint over the silver with spray paint before installing to make them stay looking new.

I would have loved to put Bilstein shocks on the VDC but they don't make them for the 01 Outbacks. They do make them for the Legacy but the price was astronomical for a pair, and I kinda doubt they would be the right fit for an OBW.

Does any one know why H6 Outbacks and H4 Outbacks used the same shocks? I would think the H6 would be more weight on the front suspension requiring a beefier shock. Is the H6 and H4 engines about the same weight?

Will take you advice and put another coat of paint on them, since i will be driving in winter allot with this car. I put a set of Kyb's on my 97 obw, haven't check to see how the paint was holding up on it.

For the most part all the shock does it keep the car from bouncing. The spring is what holds up the weight. But really 2 extra cylinders is maybe another 75 or 100 lbs at most. Placed in the right spot between the axles you wouldn't even notice that much weight difference.
