ShawnW
I have a 54" box that I am selling. Black with Stainless steel top. The top is actually for a KRL box and isn't quite the right one but it works great. Its a "Classic 78" by SnapOn. I need to get $2300 for it. Roughly 2-3 years old. Just like this only with the top on it. http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item.asp?P65=&tool=storage&item_ID=74163&group_ID=19507&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog

mcbrat
That is an epic garage. Think of it this way. You can still keep all your tools in that one area and if you need to get to it you can always move your car in the driveway. There is also i noticed a HUGE unutalized space between the double and the single door. Perfect for racks, or rolling tool boxes. If you put stuff there you would still have plenty of room for your car and access to yoru tools. I dont know how comfortable you are about opening and closeing a bunch of drawers around your restored classic car though. Restored is kinda pushing it... it's had a strip and paint job and new interior put in... that's it. otherwise, it's still original.... top is a replacement top that's 25 years old.... Even the thousand of mouse turds in every drawer. Cleaned it all up, and sprayed some fresh paint on, and wala! I love the ball bearing rolling drawers, and even the huge bay that the bottom. Gotta have someplace for the sawzaw!

Mugs
Here some pics of my baby. It is a Matco 6s series (6225RX) with stainless steel top and custom drawer configuration, and loaded with MAC, Snap ON, Matco, and S&K tools. It took me ten years of wrenching to graduate into it this spring. My ulitmate box (the one I retire with) will be a triple bay with side lockers and a hutch. What I love about it is the two 4in deep full length top drawers. It keeps the bulk of my most used tools in them. I would have bought a Mac Maximiser over this one had they had the two full length 4inch deep drawers like this one. But all the have is a 4in and 2in configuration....Its in my garage now because I am laid off of work/staring my own suby shop after all these years. So mom in law's stuff hasn't been moved to the attic yet, but is going to be now. Because it sure is a pain to work in only one side of the garage especially when your project car is in the front of the bay. I don't really care for Snap On boxes. Just something about them I don't like. The drawers seem cheap and flimsy and I just don't like their over all construction, along with the fit and finish. But that is my opinion. And no I did not clean and organize it just for the pictures. My box looks like this 24/7 just ask Baccarruda and Monstaru. I am just like this by nature. Here is a peak at it and 3 of the drawers but they all are just as organized, But I figure I would spare you all the pics of all the drawers. My Old Tool box that I had right out of Tech School. Now it holds all my "switched out tools" and other miscelanious items. Edited August 12, 2009 by Mugs

I am just like this by nature. I know what you mean - my box looks just like that. I work directly with a couple of really filthy tech's and their boxes are crammed to overload with everything immaginable - drawers dedicated to nuts/bolts/fasteners (we have a very extensive shop supply area for that stuff), and others just full of dirt/filth/porn etc. Somehow I imagine their homes are like this as well GD
TheSubaruJunkie
Everybody who works with tools for a living, should have a clean and organized box. Mick. I have both SAE & Metric tools. But I do not seperate them.... i keep all my sockets in one drawer, and all my wrenches in another. I HIGHLY recommend these socket organizers: I have 6 of these... 2 for 1/4 sockets, 2 for 3/8 & 2 for 1/2" drive sockets. one SAE & one Metric. I got mine from Craftsman.com along with a 250pc socket set a while back. I have a Matco locking socket rail that I keep in my service bag for sockets on the go. And BTW. That Matco 6 series is SEXY!!! I was lookin at buyin that box but just couldn't bring myself to spend that much.
mcbrat
yeah, I have those same socket organizers. in my old garage, I had a large metal shelf with slanted sides (homebuilt by prev owner), and I put a plywood lid on it... it house all of my socket/ratchet stuff plus lots of other things.... I have a small Waterloo rolling cart that has 3 drawers and a large bottom open are. that had my impact sockets, air tools, and vehicle specific tools.... I have another no-name bottom cart and top chest, but that one will be in my basement like it was in my old house... the local craigslist had a bunch of used high end boxes to choose from... lots of MAC and Snap-On stuff around here, plus I knew other people selling.... will get a pic next week after I get organized with the new box

I was lookin at buyin that box but just couldn't bring myself to spend that much. Ya I thought abou those for a long time. But them wanted to be able to hold all my sockets which go up to 36mm and most of those peg style organizers only go to 27mm. Plus with impact wall thickness getting thicker in the larger sizes, don't let you put sockets on the next peg over. That is why I went with the magnetic mat for the sockets. yah they are spendy. But they (6s series) were on sale in the spring and also my Matco guy gave me a discount on top of that, so I got into it for about 2grand less then retail. I just could not pass it up, since I had been waiting for almost a year for them to go on sale just so I could afford one. Also when it how you make you money it is a "justafiable expense" plus I get to write it off on taxes

Mugs
I use both SAE and Metric. GD I don't use and or buy anything SAE, that way I can tell the service writer "sorry don't have the tools for that." But now days I can't get away with it very well since most all cars are metric. So now I just say "sorry not going to work on that." And now that I am my "own boss" I can really say what and what I won't work on.

I don't work on Automotive for a living so I can't be quite as picky. Actualy there's almost nothing I work on that I really despise - with industrial machinery form nearly always follows function and for the few designs where that isn't the case..... well they don't last very long because no one wants to maintain them In fact the older the machine is, the more keen I am to work on it and expand my knowledge base and understanding. It's amazing the things you learn when your boss drops a 1960's peice of kit on you and says "tear it down". 50% of the time I'm without any kind of documention and about 10% of the time I'm not even sure what the "item" does or is being used for . I'm dead serious - sometimes we have to call the customer and ASK them what they are using it for and the approximate performance specs it should meet! It's a very different job for sure. I particularly enjoy the variety though - you never know what tommorrow will bring. GD Edited August 14, 2009 by GeneralDisorder

Mugs
Hey I really like that set up you got there. So neat and organized, with everything it is place. I love that big green "nut and bolt" cabinet you have on the left side. I am slowly working on getting my garage/shop looking like that, but first I need to get the mom in law stuff out, which is in the proccess. I know it does not happen over night, but it will happen eventually.

bheinen74
is your new garage heated? going to garage sale that old reddy heater? When you get your garage all cleaned, you can come clean mine. I am getting more and more parts its getting crazy, I have like 5 stacks of tires, tailgates, engines, crossmembers, etc and i am running out of room, parking 3 cars in a 2 stall garage is kinda tight now. . cant wait to see some pics of what you got for tool chests. No, garage isn't heated, but is finished and has a ceiling (thought it may be coming down to utilize some wasted storage space ) need somewhere to put my spare hoods, fenders, and tailgate... I have 2 heaters. 1 convection, the other a blower type. I probably will sell the blower type one. it runs on propane..... most of my tools are put away now, and I mounted the metal yellow cabinet I had above the tool chest.... still have lots of parts to organize... the new shelving units I got don't have adjustable shelves, so some of the tubs I used for parts need to be replaced with slightly shorter ones....
