I've never done anything on the old engines, but I just finished building an engine for my Legacy Turbo, so I know my way around engines somewhat at least, but I'm looking i the engine bay going wtf? 1) Where the heck is the timing belt? THere arent any obvious timing covers, unless they are metal... 2) Where the f is the oil pump? Are they driven off the crankshaft like EJ series engines? Anything helps, I'm completely new to these old engines... Does anyone have a pdf copy of a FSM or any engine diagrams? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

hatchsub Posted August 21, 2009 Share Posted August 21, 2009 (edited) Basically the only thing that these old motors share in common with the new ones is that they are horizontal 4s. Other than that throw out any knowledge you have of the new stuff cause it doesnt transfer over lol. As said above no timing belts since its a pushrod motor. The oil pump is indeed on the front of the motor and is gear driven. If its not registering any oil pressure and still sounds like its running good then i would bet either the gauge or the sending unit is shot the bed. The sending unit should be hanging below the oil filter (you will see a wire attached to it with one screw). Hope this helps.
