Caramanos2000
Ok guys my mechanic told me my front shocks are going bad:confused: The right fron makes a clanking sound when going over small bumps and what not. I have a parts car id like to swap the shocks from and might aswell do the steering rack too. The shocks should be 5 or 6 bolts and im done. Any tips for the steering rack? is it going to be something better left to an actual mechanic?
kayakpanic
what kind of car do you have? if its a gl, dl , or loyale, you can buy brand new shocks for the front for like $35 each from autozone. they are Gabriel and have a lifetime warranty...for that kind of money you will be way happier than just using a salvage shock until it goes on you. kayakpanic
oh my bad... the gabriel ultras are $70 each for the front the cheapoes of rthe back are $17 each, and the ultras are $40 each... if you plan on having the car a while longer, i still highly recommend buying new ones. nothin says luvin like new shocks! it seriously fells like you are driving a brand new vehicle... put the salvage one on to get you to payday... idosubaru
steering racks are easy. some of the lines are a bit tight to get to, but nothing hard. hard part is keeping your steering wheel aligned when you're done! it's very easy for it to be "off" if you like it to be centered or whatever visually. good time to replace the rack bushings as well that go around the steering rack. used to be some aftermarkets that were nice - whiteline maybe they were called. i bought EJ ones and used them in EA's and XT6's.
