Carb'd EJ?

Well... Finally, I Have the Numbers :)

 

I Obtained the Number of Each Part, but let me Tell you that there are Two Different Part Numbers for the Complete Distribuitor for Subaru EJ Engine, but Both Use the Same internal Parts.

 

  • The EJ Engine Distribuitor is Listed in the Dealer's Manual with Part Numbers:

22100 - AA460 and 22100 - AA550

 

  • The Rotor Head is Listed with Part Number:

22157 - KA060

(item Nº 15 on the Manual's List)

 

 

  • The Cap-Assy is Listed with Part Number:

22162 - AA090

(item Nº 14 on the Manual's List)

Seems like I've Just Solved the Mistery about Why is so Scarse and Hard to find those ignition Parts for the Carbed EJ Engine...

Hey, I have an EJ22 in my 87 GL, I have had nothing but problems with it, The engine is 90-94 mpfi, what besides the intake do I need to convert this thing?

 

I will hack and fab my own manifold, If i don't solve this issue soon i am going to revert to the 1.8. I have got to start saving some money on fuel, my ranger gets 15 mpg.

and it's killing me!

This is the rear of the passenger side head and I believe that is where the distributor goes.

Those part numbers don't work on Subaru Of America dealer system if anybody was going to try a local dealer in the USA give up on that.

Those are all actual Subaru parts though aren't they? I am thinking of doing the escort dizzy for ease of locating it. However...

 

I know where there is an early legacy with a 1.8 liter in it, I wonder if it's dizzy would bolt up to my 92 lets call it (it's 90-94 i can't remember) EJ22?

 

My engine came from a made for Japan car.

I read that post too, I am using my 2 barrol Weber.

I ground down the area where the coil pack mounts today. Now it's flat and ready for cutting the intake holes for the carb and i need to drill and tap for mounting studs. I have a piece of 1/2" aluminum left over from the EA-EJ engine adapter plate That I made, to make a custom plate once i remove the throttle body. I am going to try and locate a low pressure fuel pump tomorrow along with a distributor.

the motor you want to get the dizzy off is a JDM carburated EJ18....the dizzy on a SPFI EJ18 is totally wrong because its a optical cam position sensor type set up

 

the right type of dizzy is easy to figger out....it has a vacuum advance sticking off the side and it look like a 'real' dizzy, not a dizzy cap bolted to the back of the head lol

Well, I took a chance today and got a distributor from an 86 Escort, new cap and rotor, $65.- buck total. It bolts right on to the back of the head and perfectly fits the groove in the cam. :banana: :banana:

 

Just a little cleaning and I'll be good to go on that, except i need to figure out what to do with those three wires.

We never got the carb'd EJ engine - only fuel injection over here UNLESS it was a grey import which means that it was not shipped to australia by subaru australia...

 

i think i heard of someone on this forum who put a carby off of some kind of harley onto an ej22.

of all of the different distys i looked at , and or bought to take apart(about 10) none of them wired the same.

i went to the ford dealer and found a schematic for the early escorts and EXP's.the thing about it is that ford, like subaru changed wire colors from year to year.so, it might behoove you to get ahold of a ford guy, or a wiring diagram for that specific year that you got it from/for.

 

AND i'd like to see a disty that just bolts right to the back of the head that has not been modified to fit.it simply won't happen unless it is factory......

And then the Weber, yes it is at an angle, just temporarily though, till i find a wedge of aluminum.

As far as the Dizzy, I used an 86' Ford Escort and aside from widening the mounting/adjustment tracks, no modifying needed. It just bolted right in.
