Txakura
It occured to me that in all the ej swap stuff people have posted I've never seen mention of what they did for ea/ej exhaust. My (ea82) mid pipe is 2 1/4 (oem) and completely stock, both cats yadda yadda... What exhaust changes, if any, need to be made to host the ej engine in the ea body? Gloyale
Wasn't your EA82 originally 2wd? If so it has the stupid double walled pipe for exhaust. It's not 2 1/4.....it's like 1 1/2 surrounded by 2 1/4.....but I digress. The EJ y pipe will ALMOST bolt right to the EA82 midpipe.....they line up well. I had to cut and swap flanges to make the 2 mate. should be pretty cheap at an exhaust shop as long as they don't try to take you for a ride. Txakura
no the RS is s/r 5 originally (don't think there is a fwd RS) the pipe is 2 1/4, I had it in the shop for work and was going to replace it all with 2 1/2... until I discovered it was 2 1/4 oem, the double walled crap (heat shields) rides on top of that do I need the engine exhaust (the components directly tied to the engine), y pipe etc from the ej then? and adapt it to the flange of the old mid pipe? Gloyale
no the RS is s/r 5 originally (don't think there is a fwd RS) Yeah, I was doubtfull but 2 1/4 seems larger than it should have. the pipe is 2 1/4, I had it in the shop for work and was going to replace it all with 2 1/2... until I discovered it was 2 1/4 oem, the double walled crap (heat shields) rides on top of that I am not talking about the heat shields. I am telling you....I will bet money that you have a full on double walled pipe on there. Look closely at the end of the pipe where it meets the flange. I bet it get's a bit smaller right there huh? where the outer tube is crimped down around the neck of the inner one, and they are welded toghether. Sorry to disapoint you, but If it's the stock exhaust......I definately is not 2 1/4 pipe. It looks like it, but the pipe on the inside is only like 1 1/2 or 1 3/4. do I need the engine exhaust (the components directly tied to the engine), y pipe etc from the ej then? and adapt it to the flange of the old mid pipe? Yes you need at least the the flanges from an EJ y-pipe, if not the whole y pipe itself.
gwilson87
On my brat I just used the donor car exhaust. At least until about 2 feet past the last cat, then I started clamping and welding bends from autozone to get it up into the muffler place. Someday when I have money I will get a good exhaust system made.

It looks like it, but the pipe on the inside is only like 1 1/2 or 1 3/4. there's no disapointment, I don't care what it is as long as it doesn't leak I'm only going off the word of my favorite local shop - (great guys, have helped me out between paychecks if you know what I mean) I once asked for 2 1/2 from the cat back, when I was getting a new muffler - they were going to change it when they noticed (this is what they told me) that it was already 2 1/4 - there was no point in changing it 1/4" for the cost to benefit, I did get a 2 1/4 inlet and 2 1/4 outlet on the muffler I haven't looked into it to see what it was all about so yeah, you're quite possibly right - I'm not arguing, that's just where I got the idea
