TheLoyale
I do believe the '90 Troopers still had a full axle (Not independent) I know I've seen Troopers up till '93 that still used the full axle. Also, whats the diffrence between a front or rear solid axle? Besides the pumkin being at an off set on some. So why couldn't you use a rear axle in front, and just modify the housing for whats needed? Just my thoughts -Tom

Scott in Bellingham
how's the diff clearance with the gas tank? be sure to put some bump stops in it clears even with the 31s stuffed all the way up, not much room for upper arms ., just might get some work done on it today , trying to decide if to stick with the subaru front end or solid axle it, leaning towards the suby stuff as I already have it and like the lite nimbleness , I guess if in the futre I wanted a solid axle up front I could always change it out , and i already have a nissan 720 t-case , its raining today good day to be in the shop
TheLoyale
the front needs the ability to turn the toyota 3rd members are interchangeable front to rear.... OMG duh! Geez, strike that I said that. well I've had a feaver and a head cold for the last few days (Not in my right mind) Scott, I would just stick with the subie diff and see how you like it (You can always change it out at latter date) -Tom
jg09
You'd get a lot more travel and flex out of a solid axle, though. Or at least easier axle articulation.

Scott in Bellingham
I need to decide on a engine I have a running EA81 also a EA82 and could do the EJ2,2 , thinking I should put the EA81 in it and add a Weber what would you guys do? TheLoyale
EA81, I think its a better engine all around. Personaly I don't think of the EJs as being good wheeling motors, So yep, my vote is EA81.
The Beast I Drive
I am running 31" tires with an EA81 and it works just fine, and Im still using the stock Subaru drivetrain, no T-case. Its a little gutless on steep hills, but with the extra gears you have that wont be a problem. -Bill

SoobieDoo
My vote= EA81...easier install and sufficient power with your gearing. Only freeway use would necessitate the EJ
Scott in Bellingham
got the frontend bolted up ended up doing a 8" lift and brought forward 2" next install dual range and engine looks like EA81s going in , just have to swap out the fuel pump for a carb , going in today

WoodsWagon
I'd put in one of your carbed EJ22's with a EJ 5spd. Weld the center differential and use the rear output for the transfer case. The lack of low range in the tranny will be made up for by the transfer case and the extra power of the EJ will help.
