coylethebarbarian
I bought a wrecked 87 three door coupe today for the parts. Some front end damage, possible frame damage, front windshield got cracked (and I needed that too!), the interior is decent, engine good, doors and rockers are great... there is a decal that says "starfire 46/50". Anyone know what this means? Was this a special edition soob? I see nothing in the 87 brochure section. If so, would it be better to fix this soob instead of using it for parts? hatchsub
Maybe a dealer installed decal set? Are there any other interesting options or just decals?

Turbone
Someone a couple of months ago found one in a wrecking yard. I dont believe there is anything special about it, probably just something a dealership did. Found the pics... coylethebarbarian
I'm meeting the guy on Monday the 14th to make arrangements to pick this soob up on Thurs 17th. It's at his business so I have to let him know when I am bringing the trailer-the lot is fenced and locked. I made a quick view of the whole thing when I agreed to buy it. The body is not rusted-only the front slight front end damage. The back seat was the worst, but the interior is otherwise great-for the 80's soobs. I think the back cargo light was there, and yes, if anyone wants to draw a schematic of the areas they need me to apply a sawzall to I'd be happy to do so. I'll take pics of the whole thing, figure out what I need off it and post what is left up here over the weekend.

the sucker king
I bought a wrecked 87 three door coupe today for the parts. Anyone know what this means? Was this a special edition soob? I see nothing in the 87 brochure section. If so, would it be better to fix this soob instead of using it for parts? I have seen a few maybe 4 of those "star edition" coupes over the years, one is currently running around Lyons, Colorado from time to time. One thing I've noticed is they all had the H style rims with a different centercap than most, as seen in the pics posted above. (I think most of the h style c-caps have "subaru" on them but the star edition had a diamond pattern on them). The xx/50 implies that there were only 50 of them, but that would make it unlikely that I would have come acrossed 4 of the 50. If they were really used to shuttle beauty queens around, that's pretty darned bueno. I noticed you called it "starfire". Was that a mistake or is your car badged differently? the sucker king
I see you are in albequerque, I suppose if it were a dealership in the 4 corners states, It's possible there were only 50 and we are more likely to see them around here. coylethebarbarian
I noticed you called it "starfire". Was that a mistake or is your car badged differently? That was my mistake, the decal says "star edition" and is 46/50. I'll get pics as soon as I can, I'll snap some tomorrow when I go to set up the pic up time. I'll get some of the engine and interior too, just in case there is any difference in these "50" 3-door coupes as compared to others. Only 50? It would make sense if it were a dealer in the 4 corners area, but why the "H style" wheels are different than most others I don't know.

I've had that happen many times myself. I'll send you pics or a list of what is available when I am done. I had no idea there was anyone else in the area off of the board! Have you been to the "you pull" JY's in Albuquerque? There are always a few soobs there.
Forkspear
i have been going there since they opened a few years ago. spent way too much on soob parts. pulled a few turbo motors. stripped an rx drivetrain and body kit. 87.5 xt turbo motor. 5 lug swap i never used. xt6 sways. how bad is the front of that car? i was thinking about fixing it. my rx was totaled when i bought it. i straightened out the subframe by bolting a bracket where the bumper goes and chaining it to a big tree. coylethebarbarian
Yeah I know..been off here for quite some time... Here's the deal, had to put all projects on hold but back at it now... This particualr coupe, been looking over it... body is great in the fact there is only surface rust/faded paint... basically the front end was just pushed in a little, doesn't seem the radiator took any mayjor damage, doors still open..hood is just little crunched up-looks like the hinges/moutning brackets just need to be straightend out... the windshield is cracked due to PO opening the hood and thus cracking window at base... at first I thought about using this body for my Brat rebuild... but had to put the brat on hold.. I need the cargo space of the coupe...etc etc.. Ideas on pulling the front end? Just hook front to another truck the rear to a tree and go that route? While I have long term plans, I need a daily driver for awhile... this looks like the easiest fix of all my projects...
